Fall Art Stroll

Fall Art Stroll

The Fall Art Stroll held at The Kankakee Train Depot, 197 S. East Ave.

This free event, presented by the Community Arts Council of Kankakee, will showcase 70 arts and crafts artisans who will exhibit and sell a variety of paintings, stained glass, pottery, painted porcelain and glass, wood carvings, leather work, jewelry, quilts and other needlework, handmade soaps and lotions, crafts and much more.

This year vendors have been divided into three areas. Look for Artist Row along the 200 Block of S. Schuyler.  On the north side of E. Merchant Street there will be a Crafts Zone. Junior Artists stations will be on the south side offering free art-related children's activities. Paid activities will include a dime toss game and face painting.

More vendors can be found in Depot Park, with its eye-catching fountain and quaintly restored train depot.  Shop the vendor booths inside both the Depot and the Clock Tower building.

Another special attraction will be the Kankakee Train Museum's annual Railfest with museum tours and an exhibit of model trains.

Tattoo as Art! Contest will be hosted by the Community Arts Council, River Valley A.B.A.T.E. and Downtown Tattoo.

Once taboo, today three in 10 people have tattoos, many of which are considered body art that reflects a personal statement or story.  Tattoo as Art! will allow contestants to display their tattoos and tell their stories. Categories are Best in Color, Black and Grey, Traditional, Asian and Worse tattoo.  Registration, $5 per contestant, will be noon-2 p.m. at the A.B.A.T.E. tent in the Farmers’ Market lot.  Winners will announced and awards given at 2:30 p. m. on the park's Hill Stage.  The winner of the worse tattoo also will receive a gift certificate from Downtown Tattoo toward a cover-up tattoo.

Also featured in the Farmer's Market area will be demonstrations by a chain saw wood carver and a blacksmith.

Continuous entertainment will offer a variety of singers and instrumentalists, skits and novelty acts, including Intrinsic Fire, performing on the stage and South Schuyler Avenue.

The Friends of the Kankakee Public Library also will hold a huge used book sale on the Depot porch.

Food vendors, set up around the Depot's fountain, will offer a variety of sandwiches, including sausage, brats, burgers and hot dogs, pulled chicken and pork, plus specialty salads, popcorn, taffy apples and other treats. Slices of pumpkin or apple pie and coffee can be purchased inside the Depot to raise funds for CAC projects.

Tables will be set up on the Depot platform and about the grounds for visitors' convenience. There also will be plenty of free parking.
