Riverview Historic District |
Turn-of-the-century street lights mark the way through the
winding streets of Kankakee's Riverview Historic District,
where the gracious victorian homes and English gardens along the river form a picturesque
glimpse of a bygone era.

Frank Lloyd Wright houses |

The famed architect built two houses in Kankakee, both excellent examples
of his Prairie Style. Both the Warren Hickox and B. Harley Bradley Houses are located on
South Harrison Avenue and are privately owned. |
The Kankakee River |
The Kankakee River extends
from Indiana to Wilmington, IL, where it joins the Illinois River. There are approximately
nine miles of the river above the dam at Kankakee for pleasure boating. Below the dam, the
shallow, winding Kankakee is lined with trees and limestone formations, offering some of
the most beautiful canoeing in Illinois. |

Art Museum |
The Kankakee County Historical Society Art Museum
features an extensive collection of the works of famed sculptor George Gray Barnard, along
with Indian artifacts, local history and the restored 19th Century homestead of Dr. A.L.
Small.

Located at the North End of the Historic Illinois Central Depot, thanks to
the City Of Kankakee, in downtown Kankakee.

Courthouse |

The Kankakee County Courthouse,
built in 1909, is the architectural centerpiece of Kankakee. The marble and stone
construction is graced by stained glass and hand painted murals in the rotunda. |
Churches |
The City of Kankakee has one synagogue and 135 churches of
nearly every denomination. Their historical backgrounds and varying architectural styles
make for an interesting driving or walking tour.

Kankakee Valley Park District |
| Kankakee Valley Park District has 28 parks with a combined total of 600
acres. Facilities include a vita course, 5 Field houses, Civic Auditorium, 96-slip marina,
13 ball diamonds, 15 football fields, 24 playgrounds, 15 basketball courts, 24 tennis
courts, 5 boat landings, a bandshell, and 25 recreational groups and clubs. |
