Animal Control Services in the City are provided by the Kankakee County Animal Control Department.  To report an animal situation, you must contact the Planning & Code Enforcement Department for referral at 936-7390 during normal business house (Mon. - Fri., 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM), or the Police Department at 933-3321,  weekdays after 5PM, or any time on weekends and holidays.

  Green Bag Recycling Program


The City of Kankakee offers free disposal of recyclable materials through the Green Bag Recycling Program. For more information, call Richard Schultz, 815-936-8219

Residents may obtain (10) ten green recycle bags and (10) ten clear yard-waste bags each month at no cost by presenting their City Utility billing stub at any of the following  locations:

Aqua Illinois, 1000 S. Schuyler Ave.
Girard Ace Home and Lighting Center, 1735 S. Schuyler Ave.
Ultra Foods, Meadowview Shopping Center
Jewel/Osco, 446 S. Washington
Mario's Market, 1557 W. Court St.
 

  Curbside Garbage Collection Services

 

The City of Kankakee will collect up to three 30-gallon containers of garbage per household per week, not including recycling and yard-waste bags. For more information, call the Department of Public Works, 815-933-0471, or call ABC Disposal at 815-932-2911

Yellow bags for overage are available in packs of 10 for $7.50 at:
Aqua Illinois, 1000 S. Schuyler Ave.

Pick-ups of bulk items and rubbish may be arranged by calling Department of Public Works at 815-933-0471.

Pick-ups of appliances containing freon may be arranged by calling the Code
Enforcement Division of the Kankakee Fire Department at 815-936-7390.

The Kankakee Community Development Agency is implements the objectives of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Services include housing rehabilitation, trust fund for first-time home buyers, lead abatement, economic development, micro economic development and grants-in-aid.   River Valley Metro Mass Transit District

 

River Valley Metro Mass Transit District operates 11 different routes to get you where you want to go.   River Valley Metro currently serves Aroma Park, Kankakee, Bradley, Bourbonnais and Manteno, with a route to University Park to link up with the Metra to downtown Chicago.  River Valley Metro also provides ADA service with Metro Plus.  Most fares are $1 each way.  Visit www.rivervalleymetro.com for schedules, maps, fares and additional information.

The Kankakee Municipal Utility is a department of the City of Kankakee which has responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the City's storm water and sanitary sewer systems, pumping stations, hydroelectric facility, street lights, and traffic control signals.  The Utility also provides industrial monitoring services for the City as well as contractual laboratory testing for compliance and process control at the regional wastewater treatment plant.  The Utility is responsible for management of the City's Solid
Waste Disposal contract including recycling and yard waste disposal.
