The Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation invests
in clean energy development and land preservation efforts, working with
communities and citizens to improve environmental quality in Illinois.
The Foundation supports programs and projects that will improve
energy efficiency, develop renewable energy resources and preserve and
enhance natural areas and wildlife habitats throughout the state.
Thanks to this Illinois Clean Energy Community
Foundation the City of Kankakee will receive a grant for $59,131.00 to
upgrade 25 traffic control intersections throughout the City of
Kankakee. This upgrade will assist us in transitioning from the
inefficient incandescent fixtures to energy efficient L.E.D. fixtures
throughout the City.
Consumption of INCANDESCENT BULBS before upgrade
154,150 Watts of power per hour (154.15 kWh)
(Equivalent to the electrical consumption of 12.84
homes)
Consumption of LIGHT EMITTING DIODES (L.E.D.'s)
after upgrade
11,640 Watts of power per hour (11.64 kWh)
(Equivalent to the electrical consumption of .97
homes)
Note: Above consumption calculations are based on an average home
consumption
of 12,000 watts of power per hour.
As you can see from these simple calculations the
City of Kankakee is gaining
92.45% efficiency with our traffic control
system by upgrading to L.E.D.'s

Would like to thank The Illinois Community Foundation
and Bob Romo for there assistance on this project.
