STORM WATER DOES NOT GO TO
A TREATMENT PLANT FIRST!
![]() |
Rain landing anywhere (including streets, driveways, lawns, etc.) in the Kankakee River Watershed flows into the storm drain which empties directly into the Kankakee River. So any pollutant on the ground can easily find its way into our streams and rivers. |
DUMP NO WASTE ------- DRAINS TO RIVER
What can you do to help:
Ø
Do not
use the storm or sewer drains for disposing or dumping of any pollutant
such as: motor oil, antifreeze, pesticides, paints, solvents, or other
materials.
Ø Keep cars maintained: fix leaking fluids.
Ø
Clean up leaves or grass
clippings that accumulate on your driveway, sidewalks,
or in the street.
Ø Sweep (do not wash) fertilizer and soil off driveways and walkways.
Ø Minimize your use of salt on sidewalks and driveways during winter.
Ø Dispose of pet wastes by flushing them down the toilet or by burial.
Ø Redirect down spouts away from paved areas to vegetated areas.
